Well, that was about 31 flavours of awesome. Let those who claimed that David Tennant lacks "gravitas" and was an unworthy successor to the role of the Doctor* be hereby silenced -- what an utterly wonderful performance. Forget the end of S2, I've got your tears right here, people.
Also, Martha is rapidly becoming my favorite companion ever. It's actually a little scary.
Anyway, I hereby take back all my former complaints about Russell T. Davies. At least until next week.

* Also, if Eccleston hadn't quit we would never have had the delight of watching him smack Milo Ventimiglia upside the head with a bo stick. I rest my case.

Date: 2007-04-15 02:49 am (UTC)He is so good in this. So good. That last bit, when he finally talks to Martha; the restraint melting away in little bits . . . thing of beauty. Gridlock is one for the ages by merit of writing and direction and conecept and supporting cast alone, but oh he is so good in this and he's THE DOCTOR full-time now.
(still sekritly loyal to Nine but supports Ecclestonian smackdowns)

Date: 2007-04-16 12:50 pm (UTC)He can be quite good with set pieces, individual moments, and even moods: lots of his one or two-person scenes are quite affecting when he's trying to be. Unfortunately something happened at age eleven to his sense of humour, which was permanently stunted. This can bring episodes in which he's shown glimpses of creative excellence to breaking point and beyond (such as in Love & Monsters.)
Simply put: he needs an editor.
More specific: he needs a Cuddy.
