Your mileage may vary on the cuteness, actually, but he is (as I suspected) much improved from the squashed purple look he had at birth. So:

One of these days I'll try to catch him with his eyes open. They're brown, like his father's -- a novelty since his older two brothers' eyes are grey-blue with yellow rings around the pupil (like mine) and ice blue (like his grandfathers' on both sides).

Hee! Being a newborn he still looks about 45 in the face, of course, but he has a magnificent head of hair and his color has improved marvelously. I am, in fact, astounded by what, in comparison to the color of my skin, could pass for a healthy, glowing tan. *boggles*

Hee! That's newborn jaundice, actually... he'll be a bit less golden in a few days.

Is he jaundiced or is it the color on my screen?

Pretty baby, screen colors aside.

Yes, he's still somewhat jaundiced... we're doing the usual treatment, sunlight and lots of nursing, but it'll be a couple of days yet, I suspect...

Oh, adorable. Such tiny little fingers! So much hair! Such a cute nose!

Baby pictures (babies of any species, really, but I'm partial to humans) are possibly the single best use of Internet bandwidth ever.

*Squeeeeeeeeee--* Wait a minute, I'm supposed to be impervious and unmoved by those little things.

Is it just the lack of scale to compare, RJ, or is he as long as skinny as it seems in the first picture?

He's long and skinny. All my babies are long and skinny, with pianist fingers and practically prehensile toes, and have lots of hair right from birth. I think God knew I would have a hard time bonding to a hairless ball of lard, so He gave me kids that look like real little people. :)

That's a pretty cute kid.

It's probably just the angle, but he's got a terrifyingly mature expression in the second photo, a bit like Hamlet wishing that his too too solid flesh would melt.

Yup. It's a baby.

Newborn jaundice aside, his hair seems very dark compared with the other boys', but astonishingly beautiful.

Incidentally, he looks like a Churchill.

The kid gets more adorable every day. (Not that I see him every day, but extrapolating from the exponential differentiation visible at preset points of congruity, the whole interpolated by a given set of temporal divisions and other scientific-sounding paraphernalia....) Enjoy him!

"I think God knew I would have a hard time bonding to a hairless ball of lard..."

(Probably the best thing I've heard in a while.)

So, as a nurse who works with babies all day every day, I feel like I'm entitled to a somewhat professional opinion.

He is absolutely beautiful.

I don't know. Simon's hair was just like that when he was born, but within a couple of months it had lightened up and -- well, you know what he's like now. So I could end up with Yet Another Blond...

Maybe he'll be different and end up with brown eyes and your hair.

Of course, Nicholas and Simon could turn up with somewhat darker hair in the end, too, if their hair does that blond-to-brownish thing as they grow up.

All together now:: AAWWW!!!!!
and sleeping is a very good thing.
Now that my baby is 11, I find myself squeeing over babies--not that I want another of my own, but grandbabies might be nice.
In 15 years or so.
Love all the hair. Both mine were little cueballs.

Oh, he's adorable! And so long-limbed, too! My sisters' babies tend to be shorter and rounder, but they all were eight pounds plus and had lots of hair like yours do.

Seeing these pictures makes me want another new little niece or nephew, even though I got three in just the last year or so. *sigh* I think I will go visit my newest niece this week. Yes, that's what I'll do.
