ARRRRRRRRRR!!!

[livejournal.com profile] lizbee, remember when I told you in IM to shoot me if you-know-what? Preferably in the head, to make it quick?

Shoot me now.

*wanders off mumbling and swaying* Must... make... Captain Jack Sparrow... icons...

Jack is delightful, isn't he? He's what makes that move so much fun. :)

If you're talking DVD drive on computer, there are instructions on the net (do a search). Or, better still, download VLC, a player program which can bypass the region coding on your DVD drive. It's written by cool French dudes. I first used it because I needed a player program for Linux, but they've ported it to MS-Windows now and it works just as well there.

If you're talking an actual standalone DVD player, you may well kick yourself, since buying a multi-region DVD player here in Australia where you and I are, is simply a matter of asking the salesman which of the available ones are multi-region.

That wouldn't work. It could be summed up in one sentence: "Who let that squid in here?"

Not a Sparrow fan because:

Is the film OK for kids to watch (they are 8). I haven't seen it yet so have no idea of the plot etc, except its about pirates!

Hmmm...IMHO, they should be okay. It's more of a comedy than anything else. There are a few scary bits. How are they about skeletons? Other than that, not overly frightening.

OK for kids?

Well, when I was 8 the sight of large numbers of walking, talking, fighting skeletons would have given me screaming nightmares for about six weeks, but today's kids seem to be more inured to that kind of thing than I was.

For most of the movie it's just regular actors, but some of the characters look like skeletons by moonlight, and there are a few long scenes with a rather ghastly aspect to them as a result. Still, it was rated PG, I believe -- gruesome, but not really gory. It certainly didn't scare or upset me now.

Your boys would probably like it.
