Having become re-addicted to Doctor Who through the evil that is the repeat on UK Gold, I have to say that I'm looking forward to this too.

But ...

Given Russell Davies's proclivity to writing homosexual characters, there is a nagging worry at the back of my mind that there will be some slashy overtones to it ... Although I'll add that he is a very good writer and he has a fantastic wit in his works (even if you don't enjoy the subject matter)

If you check out Ain't It Cool they have some casting speculation - apparently Paul McGann and Richard E. Grant are rumoured to be interested ...

Yeah, the Russell Davies connection worries me too. And he's already shown a tendency to bring slash into DOCTOR WHO -- throwing Chris Cwej into a homosexual relationship, for instance, which I honestly felt was at odds with the way that character had been portrayed up to that point.

AICN is mangling information as usual, though. Paul McGann has already portrayed the Doctor in the TV movie, he said then that he wasn't planning to put on that wig again (though he's done some 8th Doctor audio adventures, sans wig, since). Richard E. Grant was cast as the 9th Doctor for an upcoming story for the BBC DW website, but that doesn't connect to the revival of the actual TV series.

I suspect it's much too early to even guess at who'll be interested in playing the part (other than that Anthony Stewart Head has already gone on record as saying he's *not* interested -- he did try out for the TV movie, but after he lost to McGann he decided playing Giles was cult stardom enough for him).

Oh wow. What excellent good news to get on a Friday morning. The only thing that would be better is if the BBC decided to license PBS to broadcast the reruns and the new episodes....

Oh, jeez...

I'd love it--LOVE IT--it Paul McGann returned as the Doctor. Whatever you thought of the TV movie, PM was the best thing about it, imho.

Wow! And weren't you and I just bemoaning the fact that BBC seemed to put so much effort at maintaining "Buzz" on the website and through other channels, it seemed insane for them not to explore recreating the series?

Whee!

Strangely, I feel a vast cosmic peace descend over me at the news.

Sometimes, there _is_ justice.

[Word That Cap'n Kathy Hates]!!!

There's something really special about a TV show that's almost the same age as oneself.

Did you ever see the Comic Relief Dr Who parody? I think you did, didn't you. Let's be weird and get Joanna Lumley back! *giggle*
