She is very cute. But it is troubling that these animals are kept as pets--they are not pets, and are not for our entertainment. This animal was born in the equivalent of a puppy mill and had her teeth pulled out so that she could be sold as a pet. That's not so cute.

(By the way, a friend of mine who picked up Knife upon my recommendation is now passing on the book to everybody who visits her flat. "Have you read the book lying around on the table in my living room? No? Pick it up, you'll love it." Unfortunately, I'm not there to see it, but I know she can be very convincing. :))
