Today I had my official bookstore launch for Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter, and boy, was it fun.

Here I am all set up and ready to sign. The store had provided me with a table right in front of the window, so I had plenty of light and lots of passing folk got treated to a view of my back. (Which, by the way, has a grunge-look design that reads "Queen of Faeries". I actually fell in love with the shirt before I even realized what it said, but seeing that just cemented it.)

You can also see, in the foreground, the basket of crunchy candy "faery eggs" which I offered to everyone who came to the table. NOM NOM NOM FAERYS TASTE GUD. And, in the background,[livejournal.com profile] cesario's doll of Knife, which naturally accompanied me to the signing.

Most of the people who came to the signing were personal friends and acquaintances, but there were a few drop-ins as well, including Sally from the Stratford Public Library (who gave SPELL HUNTER a wonderful review in the local newspaper).

I was also delighted to see some fellow local children's authors, like my fellow Stratford native Marthe Jocelyn, and also James Bow and Erin Noteboom Bow ([livejournal.com profile] erinbow) from Kitchener.

Around 3 p.m. I did a short reading from SPELL HUNTER. By then the store was quite crowded -- about twenty-five people -- and we'd had a steady stream of sales and signings the whole time, which was nice. All in all the store owners were very pleased with the turnout and the number of copies sold, as was the sales rep from HarperCollins (a lovely lady named Kathryn) who came out for the event.

By 4 p.m. we were all done, and went back to the house with friends and family to continue the festivities, where I was greeted by some beautiful tulips from my brother and sister-in-law, as well as a beautifully decorated table with a cake to match...

...and below you can get a closer look at that gorgeous cake.

Anyway, it was wonderful to share my bookstore launch and all the fun afterward with family and dear friends, including [livejournal.com profile] shing and [livejournal.com profile] shoebox2 who came all the way from Toronto to help me mark the occasion. I've been tremendously blessed, and I'm very grateful for it.

Y'know, I kept meaning to ask you about that shirt all evening, whether it was your idea or a fluke...:)

Anyway, it was all an incredible amount of fun, and 'twas yourself and family that made it so. Thanks.

According to the Chapters website, they're available at the Coles in Pen Centre, Niagara Square and the Seaway Mall. None at the Chapters store itself, though you could always go and ask and I'm sure they'd order it in there too...!

Yeah, I got a macabre sort of amusement out of that one. I told my 8 yo son (who has read the book) he could pretend he was a crow. :D

Sorry I missed it! So glad, though, you had such a great turnout! Here's a link to CM where I saw 'Faery Rebels' got a 4-star review - http://www.umanitoba.ca/outreach/cm/vol15/no18/faeryrebels.html

Yay you!!! :D

Congrats! I am so happy you had a lovely turnout. As I mentioned, sadly I wasn't able to make it, but if the husband and I make it to Stratford this summer like we planned I'll let you know.

Don't suppose there will be any of that cake left, hmm? Actually, wait, even I - the Cake Whore - wouldn't eat months old cake. I DO have standards. Just have them bake us a new one. Haha!

PS - it's the Coles here in Montreal that have the book as well. The Chapigos (Chapters/Indigo) don't yet. Strange, huh?

From: [identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com
Yeah, I've noticed that with a lot of Chapters -- the Coles are carrying it in droves, but Chapters, not as much. However, I went into one Chapters in Ottawa looking for it and was unable to find any -- but the next day they had 20 copies. So sometimes they're there, just buried in the back room...
