Today I had my official bookstore launch for Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter, and boy, was it fun.
Here I am all set up and ready to sign. The store had provided me with a table right in front of the window, so I had plenty of light and lots of passing folk got treated to a view of my back. (Which, by the way, has a grunge-look design that reads "Queen of Faeries". I actually fell in love with the shirt before I even realized what it said, but seeing that just cemented it.)
You can also see, in the foreground, the basket of crunchy candy "faery eggs" which I offered to everyone who came to the table. NOM NOM NOM FAERYS TASTE GUD. And, in the background,
cesario's doll of Knife, which naturally accompanied me to the signing.
Most of the people who came to the signing were personal friends and acquaintances, but there were a few drop-ins as well, including Sally from the Stratford Public Library (who gave SPELL HUNTER a wonderful review in the local newspaper).
I was also delighted to see some fellow local children's authors, like my fellow Stratford native Marthe Jocelyn, and also James Bow and Erin Noteboom Bow (
erinbow) from Kitchener.
Around 3 p.m. I did a short reading from SPELL HUNTER. By then the store was quite crowded -- about twenty-five people -- and we'd had a steady stream of sales and signings the whole time, which was nice. All in all the store owners were very pleased with the turnout and the number of copies sold, as was the sales rep from HarperCollins (a lovely lady named Kathryn) who came out for the event.

By 4 p.m. we were all done, and went back to the house with friends and family to continue the festivities, where I was greeted by some beautiful tulips from my brother and sister-in-law, as well as a beautifully decorated table with a cake to match...
...and below you can get a closer look at that gorgeous cake.
Anyway, it was wonderful to share my bookstore launch and all the fun afterward with family and dear friends, including
shing and
shoebox2 who came all the way from Toronto to help me mark the occasion. I've been tremendously blessed, and I'm very grateful for it.

Date: 2009-05-03 01:43 pm (UTC)Don't suppose there will be any of that cake left, hmm? Actually, wait, even I - the Cake Whore - wouldn't eat months old cake. I DO have standards. Just have them bake us a new one. Haha!
PS - it's the Coles here in Montreal that have the book as well. The Chapigos (Chapters/Indigo) don't yet. Strange, huh?
