This probably says something about me, but my entertainment factor for today just went up by about 80% when I suddenly realized that the dwarves' cleaning-up song from The Hobbit ("Carefully! Carefully with the plates!") could be sung to the tune of the square dance song from "Hillbilly Hare".

No, really:

Easily amused, yes.

That's hilarious.

That's also one of my favorite Loony Tunes cartoons. "Grab a fencepost, hold it tight. . . whomp your partner with all your might. . ." *dies*

Hey, being easily-amused by Loony Tunes is actually a sign of great sophistication. At least, that's how I justify it to myself...:)

He!

Now I'll never be able to read the Hobbit again.

More fun with alternative tunes:

The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales can be sung to the tune of the Chiquita Banana song.

The Doxology ("Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow") can be sung to the tune of "Hernando's Hideaway." And so can Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."

There, that ought to start a few earworms. My work here is done. ;-D

Except that I know neither the Chiquita Banana song nor "Hernando's Hideaway", and so I am immune to your earworm-provoking ways! *cackles triumphantly*

The Chiquita Banana song was in a commercial long ago, so no surprise about that one. But you probably have heard "Hernando's Hideaway"---it's a very familiar tango tune---and just don't recognize it under that name.

So just you wait. I'll get you, my pretty, and your little earworm, too!

The tune is Turkey in the Straw.
