Why did I not know until now that Peter S. Beagle had written a sequel to The Last Unicorn? And it's lovely and heartbreaking and has a wonderful narrative voice, too.

*sighs wistfully*

It's a shame I haven't enjoyed anything else of Beagle's that I've read. TLU really grabbed me and still does, but I couldn't warm to A Fine and Private Place or The Innkeeper's Song at all.

Yes, "Two Hearts" almost killed me dead. It was perfectly sad and heartbreaking, just like The Last Unicorn, and it had the same feeling of this is how it must be that I hated as a child but I appreciate now. It wouldn't be the same story if Amalthea and Lir had lived happily ever after.

Peter B. says he may write a full-length Sooz novel--I do hope so!

Oooh!

Yes, I think "The Last Unicorn" is the best thing he's written. I did like "A Fine and Private Place" but not as much. And I really couldn't get into either "The Innkeeper's Song" or "Folk of the Air"; they didn't click for me at all. "The Innkeeper's Song" just had too many point-of-view characters, it was annoying.

I liked A Fine and Private Place, but I agree, I couldn't connect with the MC on most of what I've read by him.

Did you every read "I see By Your Outfit"? Beagle doing a non-fiction account of a road trip he took with a friend from NYC to California. I loved it as a teen, and have been thinking of tracking it down and re-reading it to see if it holds up.

Happy Friday!

Ah! I just read that a few months ago. It is quite heartbreaking, but though I like the girl's voice, I miss the wonderful tone of the original book. It made me want to know more about Schmendrick and Molly's adventures over all those years.

What about _Tamsin_?

If you haven't read that, you really must try.
