So my husband comes in from his shed/workshop*, where he's been working all evening on a barn-shaped toy cabinet for our oldest son, and we have the following exchange:

H: I thought when I started that this was going to be a small project, but I seem to have got a bit carried away.

Me: O RLY?

H: Yeah. Now I know why the Mennonites get everybody together to do these things.

Me: ... They do that for REAL barns. Not TOY barns.

H: They'd do it for this one.

Me: *facepalm*

I suppose I could go out to the shed and look for myself, but right now I'm thinking I might be happier just not knowing...

* which many visitors mistake for the house next door, or possibly a summer cottage we couldn't be bothered to buy extra property for, but that's another story.

If that was me, at this point I'd be worrying about whether or not it'd fit in the house by the time it was finished. I say this, thinking of the toy box my husband made that was supposed to be normal sized but now houses almost every single toy we got my son for the first 3 years of his life--even the big ones. The toy box that takes up almost as much space in his room as his bed.

It's 4" wide by 2" high. *whimpers*

That's inches?

It actually does sound like an ambitious project, whether inches or feet. Will there be pics when it's done?

*facepalm*

I KNEW something about that didn't look right. Make that 4' x 2'.

And I would love to take pics, but I had to mail off my camera to be repaired today, so it may be a while...

My husband's projects grow only electronically, so perhaps I'd have a different reaction if they didn't, but my immediate one was, "Awwwww, that's adorable."

It is, rather. At least I get a kick out of it. I mean, if you're going to have a hobby...

Yes -- if you are going to have a hobby, have it whole-heartedly. No half-measures.

I do hope you're going to post pictures when he's done with it.

But of course! As soon as I can get my camera back...

Ack, don't go out!

The fight you'll have over you not going out will be way smaller than the fight you'll have if you go out and try to help (while he's already cranky). LOL!

Heh. No fights here! Just some sighs of bemused resignation. :)

It sounds disturbingly reminiscent of the episode in "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" when Frank Skinner makes a playhouse for his daughter. It's so enormous it has to be hoisted through the window. He'd got a bit carried away too.

I saw that episode as a child (hooray for TV Ontario), so I know exactly what you are talking about. And I thought the same thing!

Which reminds me -- I hear they are bringing back To The Manor Born. I loved that show! But I can't imagine what they're planning to do with it now.

Why is it that bigger is always better??

Though I do wish my husband would decide to build me a bookshelf. The one I have is about to fall over from the weight and I can't find a thing on it.

I've got to say... that is adorable. Possibly annoying, but still adorable. :)
