Every time I heard U2's "Electrical Storm" on the radio it made me think of If We Survive for some reason, but the lyrics didn't really fit. This song, however, has a similar musical punch, and the lyrics are much more appropriate:

  • Bring Me To Life by Evanescence

I can see why a clear soprano voice might make me think of Maud, but the association between Snape and pounding metal guitar is not quite so clear. Ah, well.

For those keeping track of my incredibly slow progress on this project, the only other song I've found so far is Dante's Prayer by Loreena McKennitt -- though as with the above, it was the music that caught my attention first, and the appropriateness of the lyrics was pure serendipity.

Basically, I chose these two songs because they conjured up such strong and immediate mental images that I found myself frustrated by not being able to turn them into a vid. That's what a soundtrack is, for me.

I love Evanescence! I often have their CD going in the car when I'm driving--Hubby introduced me to them, LOL! The best thing is that I can sing along with the lead singer and am able to hit all the notes!

And, of course, being a (would-be) harper, Loreena McKennit is da bomb!

Nice to see our musical tastes jive so often!

Yeah, and not even rip your throat up in the process! It's nice to hear a female singer who doesn't think she has to *growl* everything for a change...

This makes no sense to anyone but me, I'm sure, but my Snape/Maud songly thing was a Silverchair song, I think it was called "Love your life". Now, Silverchair is generally frowned upon, and probably quite rightly so, for they are silly and their lyrics often make no sense, but for whatever reason this song always came on my radio whenever I was reading Darkness and Light, so it got stuck in my head with DL associations. And is one of three songs that make me think of fanfictions when I hear them.

    Relevant lyrics are:
"Thrust the candle to the dark of your disease...
Labyrinth of sympathy in which I'm lost and can't leave
And too much truth overshadows the lime lies
And what lies beneath the clouds is an
    Altered perception...

You don't know the truth and I love your life

Flinch against the fire but this ain't winter...
Where I'm content to be to be all by myself
But frozen eyes are bound to melt."

Ah, lyrics! So vague, they could mean anything! *grin*

I have never heard this song, but now I have Crowded House's "Love This Life" running through my head.

And yes, those are wonderfully vague, though at least not so entirely cryptic and nonsensical as, say, Duran Duran lyrics. The words for "New Moon on Monday" alone are enough to make anybody go "Huh???"

I gotta disagree on the silverchair rec, but then, I'm not a True Believer. Never cared for that particular song.

Well, it makes sense to me.

Actually went out and bought the Evanescence single yesterday -- I'd been hearing mixed things about them for weeks, and your rec finally tipped the balance. And my response is: Squeeeee! More waily girl music with which to annoy friends and flatmates!

They do sound exactly like Joydrop, though, which is scaring me. I actually went and checked that it wasn't the same vocalist.
