Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but you'd think she could at least spell the title right and do something with the formatting. Three out of four reviewers say, "Get a life, you plagiarizing weasel."

On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] lizbee says this proves I really am a BNF. Snert.

Thanks to everybody who spoke out indignantly on my behalf, both in comments and in e-mail. Warms the cockles of my li'l heart, it does.

I reported this to ff.net and I'm dismayed to see that the story hasn't been taken down yet (but hopefully it will be soon). Unfortunately, I can not only sympathize with you but empathize as well; one of my stories was victimized in a similar fashion a few months ago but at least the little toad attempted to change a few minor things first.

You don't need proof of this kind to be a BNF, RJ--you were one already.

Again, I'm so sorry this happened.

Oh, no need to feel sorry on my behalf (though it's terribly sweet of you). I really do find it funny.

But thanks very much for reporting it -- for some reason the "report abuse" link refused to show up on my screen, so I couldn't do it myself.

And aw! on the BNF thing. You're so nice. :)

If you've got plug-ins and pop-ups disabled, you may not be able to access the pull-down menu. At least, that's been the case with me. Regardless, I really hope ff.net acts on this soon.

BNF?

I think it is better to be amused by it all than disgusted. The plagarism did not go unnoticed and as you thought they have done this in the past (and the stories weren't taken down) So be chuffed that you have been singled out for this 'honour'and that you have so many admires that leapt to your defence. :)

Oh, I'm definitely amused, no worries there. :) Thanks.

Big Name Fan. I'm glad to see the term is still around; I thought I was one of the few speakers of Fannish left. ;) That's a reference/title which has been around since the '60s, at least, back when fandom was 95% male and ran on mimeo machines.

Oh, my, a Harry Potter fan who realizes that SF fandom exists. I thought that they were an endangered species. XD

...and fanfic authors want to write the words that you wrote!

I feel like I should be floored, but somehow I'm not surprised... *sigh*

*grins* I knew I could count on somebody to catch that reference... do the points go to Ravenclaw, or have I got the wrong House?

*laugh* Good guess. I'm definitely the Hermione type, except I'm not one to go in for risks just 'cause. No doubt I'd be a Ravenclaw.

Well, I'm a Ravenclaw too, so I guess it takes one to know one. :)

Hi Rebecca,

This person is obviously out for attention, and she's getting it. She just plagiarized a friend (Sunshinedaisies) and received 20 accusations and flames, then, two days later she put your fic up. I know we should ignore her, but it's so hard to do that. I left her another insult today!

Nell

When you feed the troll, it keeps coming back. (That's been plagiarized from someone, I don't know who coined the phrase)

*sigh* I know... but sometimes it's hard not to feed the trolls.

I hope FF.net nails this person soon.

Yeah, I reported them too (and posted two of my stories there, as well--what am I thinking? Oh, yeah, I'm a feedback junkie). You know, there's a point where "Gee I wish I'd written that" goes a bit far.

Aaaaghh! "Tiny Planets" rears its head again!

Well, it's still up as of 8:15 Wednesday night.

???What are these people thinking? Are the one or two good reviews you get from the unsuspecting before you're nailed really worth it? (That's rhetorical, don't answer.)

RJ, are you aware of a site called Plagiarism Police Patrol? Link is here (http://fablespinner.com/ppp/ppp.html). Don't know how much it would actually accomplish -- right now they seem to concentrate on anime. But if FF.net is dragging butt...

Ah! They have a sister branch for all fanfic/art exclusive of anime. here. (http://www.angelfire.com/jazz/nomad/PPP2/Main.html)

Thanks -- I may yet go that route if FF.net refuses to respond. They do state, however, that if FF.net is involved then you're supposed to go to them first and they'll file the abuse report -- they don't want to waste their time investigating and pursuing something FF.net's just going to delete in 24 hours anyway. So I guess I'll give it a few more days.

Update:
FFN has taken down Jennifer's (Sunshynedaisies) story from "angelina's" file, but it took three days. (I don't know why they didn't just wipe out her whole profile!) Expect this to take a while.

That's very odd, indeed. Considering how quick they've been to respond to accusations of plagiarism in the past -- to the extent of people being up in arms and accusing them of being too quick about it -- one would think that instant banning would be the response, yes.

But maybe that only happens if the plagiarism is from a published author.
