The unfortunate image of Clay Aiken singing "Grease", accompanied by intermittent hip twitches and pelvic thrustlets, has been wiggling uncomfortably across the surface of my right temporal lobe since last night.

Paula's attempt to put a brave face on it notwithstanding, I am cheered by the obvious conclusion to this episode: you can lead a geek to fashion, but you can't make him hip.

It's all right, Clay, we still love you. Even if we sometimes have to do it with our eyes closed.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it was one of the Best Moments Ever. Poor baby, he was trying SO hard. And he looked so adorably uncomfortable. Paula has a lot to answer for, though. Putting a poor geek-boy up to that kind of thing. She's lucky he didn't implode right there on stage, leaving nothing but his (previously well-hidden) secret pocket protector behind.

Josh (who scares me, especially after last night's stomping, pointing, in-your-face performance of "Jive Talk") has obviously made an unholy pact with the same Dark Gods that were preserving Carmen. Possibly even the same evil pantheon that got Nikki into the final three last year...
