Date: 2003-04-28 05:33 pm (UTC)Well, you get somebody to help and steady you doing that part. Plus if you put a plastic step-stool in the tub with you, it's perfect to lean on, or sit on, or use as a step when getting out.
We rented a complete waterbirth tub kit. It came with a heating pad (the same that gets used for waterbeds), water thermometer, stools for in and out of the tub, and all kinds of other handy paraphenalia.
Personally, I loved the experience -- being in the tub was absolutely terrific for changing position and making myself as comfortable as possible during labour, plus the warm water felt really good on my aching back. I would definitely do it again.
