Usually I write from 11:30 to 2:00 pm. or thereabouts, when my toddler is napping. Today, however, said toddler refused to nap, nohow, contrariwise. I was having trouble getting my head together anyway, thanks to it being a certain time of the month* but that really put gum in my mental works. Now I have to write at least 1,400 words tonight to make quota, but even with my detailed outline I seem to have lost my grasp on the book and no longer know what I am doing or why.

*cries*

*No, not that one, the OTHER one -- my brain goes on the fritz every two weeks these days. Feh.

Much sympathy to you! My two-year-old has stopped taking regular naps (she occasionally does, but not reliably), and has started staying up late (like ten pm??!) and then waking up around midnight. AAARRGH!!! When I look at my WIP I can't tell anymore if it's a book or a cereal advertisement.

Good luck on your quota. But even if you can't meet it, you're still making great progress. Think of the big picture. :)

*hugs* Sorry it's been a rough day. I can't tell you how much I admire the amount of work and dedication you're putting into your writing, especially considering all the other claims on your time.

I sympathize, RJ -- hope you feel better soon...and here's to a good night's sleep reminding you of your goals in the WIP!

Sometimes it pays to listen to your body's rhythms, not your head. I know you want to forge ahead, but would it maybe be better to get some rest and start fresh tomorrow.

For what it's worth, I'm sending my sympathies and my support!

nohow, contrariwise

*grins, and giggles at your icon*

This too will pass. *hugs* Start fresh tomorrow, write a little extra for a few days to catch up, and don't worry about it.

This, too, shall pass

Take a deep breath. It'll come back to you. When you're under stress, it's way more difficult to concentrate enough that you enter the flowstate. But it'll come back. Probably when you least expect it. And this is a self-imposed deadline, so cut yourself some slack!

I always expected that you were just about to get published, way back when we were doing the collaborative novel and you did the "Traveler" novel and the original version of "Knife." (I never have been able to understand why the quality of your writing--and of my prose (ahem), at least some of it--didn't trump whatever else it was that the great They were looking for.) ANYhow, I think at long last now you're going to devote yourself to it again, and you'll be there soon.

Enjoy your children while they're little. The prose will come back.
