Er, so who's planning to go to Prophecy, then?

Here's proof of how far I'm out of the HP fandom loop these days -- I had no idea the conference even existed until [livejournal.com profile] melissa_tlc mentioned it in passing -- naturally assuming I'd be there. And why not? It's only a couple hours' drive! Only, I just found out about it last week. Erm.

So now I'm trying to decide whether it's worth going to the whole shebang (or part of it at least), or whether I should just try to zip into Toronto one day during the conference for a casual meet-up. What say you, loyal readers? Will you be there?

I'll definitely be there. I'm rooming with complete strangers from the US and will be heading down from Ottawa a day early so I can take them on a quick sightseeing tour of the city.

Oh, and just to keep you in the fandom loop, we're considering a second (and final) Convention Alley event in Ottawa for next June. :D

My kid and I went to Lumos last summer, stayed with my Mum and had a blast. We're signed up for Prophecy this summer since it's only a 5 hour drive, and so far I plan on us being at the Sheraton from August 1st until the 5th.

Some of the programming at Lumos was excellent, some of it was... less so, but meeting people and having story board sessions along with the magical night classes and everything else was priceless.

I'm having cash flow issues, so I don't know yet. One of my friends from the Netherlands was considering going to Prophecy, and one of my message boards is considering having their annual meetup/convention in Toronto around that weekend and they really, really want me to come this year as I've missed the previous 4.

No, I'm not going to Prophecy, just to Toronto ;) I'm planning on touring War of 1812 sites on the way if I do go.

Oh, it sounds fun, but I'm doing all these other expensive type trips. I need to live some place closer to where conventions are so I can actually attend them. I don't think I've ever been to a fannish convention, and it's so sad really. It's the sort of thing that if I didn't know me, I'd totally suspect that I'd done all the time.

I would like to point you to this list (http://www.locusmag.com/Conventions.html). These may not be Harry Potter conventions, but almost any given literary sf con will have some sort of discussion or panel about YA literature. (And, no, this isn't a complete list of cons, but it's the only one that updates these days, sadly)

General conventions are fun. Lots of fun. Try one!

Oh, that's awesome. Thank you! I really am going to in the next couple of years.
