Oh yes, oh yes, YES! YES! YES! ... Er, and a casting spoiler )

Also, speaking of JJ Abrams, GIP! I don't usually like to use other people's icons unless they were made specifically for me and therefore are not likely to be spotted in a zillion other LJs, but I have no idea where I might go about finding this screencap to make my own version. Besides, I like the lighting and Josh Holloway brings teh pretty in a truly impressive way so... here it is. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] littleasianpixi and [livejournal.com profile] foriconsake.
Two days ago I was lamenting (in an f-locked post, but don't worry, you didn't miss anything) my complete lack of interest or motivation when it came to writing -- not a good thing when you're in the middle of editing a novel that really, really has to get finished and out the door before the baby comes. I was also feeling rather discouraged when I looked back at the work I'd already done on the early chapters. However, simply admitting as much seemed to unblock some kind of mental jam, because as of last night I've finally whipped the Prologue into a shape I'm really proud of, and now here I am wishing fervently that I could hire a babysitter or something to look after my kids while I write! write! write!

However, the kids are still sick and I would not wish their germs upon a babysitter, so I will have to wait until later tonight to start tinkering again. In the meantime, I have made icons, including the one on this post, which I'm rather absurdly pleased with considering that the original artwork (which I drew last year and was never entirely happy with) didn't look nearly that good. Photoshop covereth a multitude of sins.
Happy birthday to me, and all that, she said in Eeyore-like tones of utter despondency.

Tonight I let the kids play games on the computer for half an hour or so, and one of them shut the computer off mid-game by poking it randomly with his toe. I scolded him and turned the computer back on, only to have the other kid cancel Scandisk on me halfway through the scan. Then I saw the oh-so-comforting message on the screen:

Windows Protection Fault
You will need to reboot your computer.

Press any key to continue...

Needless to say, pressing any key did not continue; it never does. So I rebooted again, and this time the computer would only start in Safe Mode. I ran through various troubleshooting scenarios, all of which yielded nothing. Finally I resigned myself to reinstalling Windows from the CD, only to discover that the CD drive is inaccessible.

All together, now: Arrrrrrggggggh.

So, needless to say, I am not spending the evening as I had hoped, watching The Amazing Race with my husband and then settling in for a productive couple of hours of editing. I have been forced to squander it on a fruitless attempt to fix my computer, and now here I am downstairs on my parents' machine typing this message to let you all know that it may, once more, be a couple of days before you hear from me again.

Like I said, hooray and happy birthday to me. *gloom*
