Huzzah! [livejournal.com profile] lydaclunas has finally written up her version of events (which is good, because my memory is poor enough that I got the timing of at least one incident completely wrong). There are also pictures (and some good-natured mockery) of yours truly, so head on over and check it out...

Note to self: Need some new icons.
I love JKR madly. I really do. Especially for this (which is not a book spoiler, so I feel no guilt about not lj-cutting it):

I have no spare time at all. [Laughter]. When I’m not writing or looking after the children, I read and sleep. To be totally honest with you, at the moment sleeping is probably my very favourite thing in the world to do. I know that is a bit of a depressing answer. I would like to say I was partying with Mick Jagger--well, I wouldn't want to be partying with Mick Jagger, that is a complete lie...
Hee. I am so with you there, Jo. On all counts.

You can read the rest of her new interview here. Lots of good stuff about the books, and plenty of new theory-fodder. Plus, I adored that cut to avoid spoiling too much of the interview for people who haven't read it yet )

Drat, where did all the time I was going to spend editing Knife go? *dashes off to try and salvage the last twenty minutes*
"Mama, come and see my vocabulary machine," said four-year-old Nicholas proudly.

I walked into the next room and saw a long, undulating line of Duplo blocks carefully joined together. "Oh," I said. "What exactly does a vocabulary machine do?"

He gave me a reproachful look, as though I should have known without asking. "It calculates how much you weigh."

Of course. I ought to have guessed that at once.

In other Nicholas-related news, we have finished The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and are three chapters into Prince Caspian. I sometimes wonder whether he's really paying attention, as he wriggles around and stares off into space a lot, but every night he asks to make sure I'm going to read him another chapter...
From the official CTV Canadian Idol page, re this week's competition:

The competitors have chosen some of [Gordon] Lightfoot's most memorable songs, including "Sundown," "Early Morning Rain," "Song for a Winter's Night," "The Way I Feel," "Rainy Day People" and "If You Could Read My Mind."
And the results show:

Airing live this Thursday, August 19 from 8 - 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, the six remaining competitors will not only sing but also play guitar, piano, bass, mandolin and fiddle together on the classic Gordon Lightfoot song "Canadian Railroad Trilogy." Canadian Idol is the first series out of over 25 Idol programs seen around the world in which competitors will play instruments.
*faints with happiness*

Seriously, I'm not kidding, either. Kalan plays violin like a virtuoso, and the others playing instruments are no amateurs either. So whatever happens, this performance is not going to be mistaken for Tiny Talent Time. And Gord! A whole two hours of Gord! I love CI2, I do, I do.

Glorified karaoke HA! Not in Canada, suckers.

*feels sorry for all the people who got stuck with nothing but American Idol 3 this year*
