...who keeps writing comments on LJ posts and being told that they've been saved, only to find them missing when I reload the page? And worse, two of my comments showed up once and then seemed to disappear. Grrr.

I think I mentioned here (or somewhere) a few days ago that I was reading a critique of Calvinism. Somebody asked me what the book was -- it was What Love Is This? Calvinism's Misrepresentation of God by Dave Hunt. Hunt does make a few good points, though not what I would consider to be the most significant ones, nor necessarily made in the best way; and as my Dad said, pretty much the strongest argument of the book is made right on the front cover. And although Hunt's remarks about the life of John Calvin may have some historical validity, the ad hominem style of argumentation really doesn't help his case.

Personally, I'm much more impressed with a much smaller book by John F. Parkinson called The Faith of God's Elect: a comparison between the election of Scripture and the election of Theology. I've read the latter twice now (just finished my second go-round) and I really think Parkinson makes some excellent points about the true Biblical use of the term "election", and how it differs significantly from either the Calvinist or Arminian definition, in a way that Hunt does not. Anyway, if you're at all interested in this particular debate I would highly recommend Parkinson's book, which I believe can be ordered through Gospel Folio Press.
