Having been tagged by Cheryl and seen both her answers and
melissa_tlc's, I figure I might as well knuckle down and do it too...
10 years ago: I was living with my parents, unemployed, unattached, looking into various employment and ministry opportunities -- none of which seemed to be panning out for some strange, frustrating reason -- and wondering if I would ever be able to work as a secretary again due to my carpal tunnel syndrome. IIRC, with
pharnabazus's help I was also working on Yet Another Redraft of Knife in preparation for the Warner Aspect First Fantasy/SF Novel contest (which, obviously, it didn't win).
5 years ago:I was struggling through the first few weeks of coping with a newborn infant, made all the more difficult by my utter lack of experience with babies and some rather nasty lingering difficulties from the birth including -- hooray! more carpal tunnel with a side order of DeQuervain's in both thumbs. However, as I had just read Goblet of Fire while nursing my son (bow down before the queen of multitasking!) and been completely blown away by the coolness of DoubleAgent!Snape, I was already putting ideas together in my mind for the story that would become "The Potions Master's Apprentice".
1 year ago: I had just received back an earlier draft of Knife back along with a long, detailed and enormously helpful letter pointing out the book's weak spots so I could work on them, and was mulling over how best to go about approaching the rewrites.
Yesterday: I was having brunch with my mother's family, revelling in the delight of blueberry pancakes and a truly killer chocolate cake with creamy icing, and noticing that my ankles had finally started to swell up into that delightful elephantine shape they tend to assume in the last month of pregnancy.
Tomorrow: I shall do my grocery shopping for the week, plus a few other household chores as necessary, and try to keep my kids amused without having them (or me) collapse of heat exhaustion.
5 snacks I enjoy: toasted bagels spread with baba ghanouj; baked brie with smoked salmon on crackers; fresh fruit; chocolate in just about any and every form whatsoever; ice cream in a sugar or waffle cone.
5 bands/artists that I know the lyrics to most of their songs: Talk Talk, a-ha, Michael Card, Cock Robin, Crowded House.
5 things I would do with $100,000,000: Support a lot of missionaries and full-time workers I know; pay off all the mortgages and debts in our extended family; put a good chunk away for emergencies and other future needs; buy a new computer; visit New Zealand, Australia, Germany, north Scotland and south England.
5 locations I would like to run away to: north Wales, the south of Scotland, Yorkshire, Israel (specifically, the Galil), Vancouver Island.
5 bad habits I have: not dusting often enough; putting off projects until just before the deadline; wasting time clicking randomly around the intarwebs; not following through on good intentions; eating too much dessert.
5 things I like doing: eating other people's cooking, having guests to dinner, reading out loud to my family and friends, writing books and stories, singing traditional folk or folk-sounding music.
5 things I will never wear: a bikini of any description, spandex pants, miniskirts, the colour orange, t-shirts with crude or political slogans.
5 TV shows I like(d): Going for ones everybody hasn't already heard me babble about or seen me write fanfic for: Airwolf, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Max Headroom (first season only, alas), Beauty and the Beast, Nowhere Man.
5 movies I like: Truly, Madly, Deeply, Lady Jane, WarGames, The Hunt for Red October, Emma.
5 people I'd like to meet:
lizbee, Cheryl, Lois McMaster Bujold, J.K. Rowling,
yahtzee63.
5 biggest joys at the moment: air conditioning, wild blueberries, my family, a good night's sleep, and God's inexhaustible grace.
5 favorite toys: my computer, my electric grill, my dishwasher, my front-loading washer, my bundt pan.
5 people tagged to do this meme: Off the top of my head I'll say
lizbee,
rose_in_shadow,
penwiper26,
cesario, and
lydaclunas, but really, anyone would be cool.
