Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the bookstore...

News item, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63: Anne Rice, of all people, is writing a novel about the early years of Jesus's life. In the first person.

Excuse me while I weep blood and then spork myself to death. I might have to take my friends and family with me as well, to spare them the horror of it all.

Wow. Particularly after what someone from her hometown just told me about her personality and everything... that's pretty frightening.

Is it time to laugh or weep? I don't know. All I know is that Ms. "I Don't Need No Stinkin' Editor" Rice better not go comparing herself to Robert Graves.

Words cannot express how amused and horrified I am by this whole idea. A sick and masocistic part of me would like to see what she comes up with.

Would it be wrong to want to pray for her to have such a massive case of writers block that she abandons the project entirely?

Hold me. ;____;

I think this may be proof that there is no God.

This is really alarming, particularly concerning her attitude towards criticism.

Perhaps the editor will decide it is too sacreligious to actually publish? *crosses fingers, toes, self, and prays*

That's ... scary.

O_O

She *must* be joking. "I'll never be able to speak the words of consecration at Mass"???

I have serious doubts as to whether she'd be able to speak the words of the Lord's Prayer without a random, unseasonal bolt of lightning suddenly falling on her head.

Heaven help us. This is simply too extraordinary to be believed.

Dear God and all the saints in heaven. .... If you're whipping up a batch of koolaide, RJ, save some for me. (On the other hand, Ricci's *Testament* is challenging but wonderful. So wonderful I couldn't finish it, knowing how it must end up.)

I think it's perfectly natural that Anne Rice write a book about Jesus in the first person. The woman's obviously got a God complex - let her get it out of her system and maybe she'll be less wanky.

That's obviously a big 'maybe'.

Congratulations on finishing 'Knife' by the way. I'm keeping my fingers crossed you find a sensible publisher who loves it.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2005-05-09 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
A very big "maybe". I can't say I'm very optimistic about the prospect -- the woman's ego is the size of a small moon.

Thanks for the congrats, and I hope so, too!

Arrrghh!!!
God forbid.

[identity profile] izhilzha.livejournal.com 2005-05-09 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack! I am beyond startled...what on earth might she be trying to do by writing this?

*goes looking for own spork*

madness I say!
