The 2004 Alias Festival of Fic results are in, and wow! I'm astonished and thrilled. What You Never Knew You Wanted won awards for Outstanding Weiss Characterization (1st Place), Outstanding Syd/Weiss Romance (also 1st), and Outstanding Long Story (3rd)! I really did not expect this at all! Thanks so much to everyone who voted for me. And congratulations to all the other winners!

As for last weekend's trip to Convention Alley, I will soon have more -- lots more -- to report. Stay tuned to learn about the Worst Traffic Jam Ever, hear some shiny new HP theories and find out how my Snape presentation went. Also, find out why the new hot LJ interest is stalking* Steve Vander Ark (though if you were at CA, you'll know the answer to that already).
--
* By which I mean "stalking" in the nicest, purely virtual (and most legal) kind of way. Naturally. And I haven't actually got around to doing any of it yet. So it's more a sort of vague, theoretical stalking. But you get the idea.

Congrats on your awards! There'd be no justice in the world if your Sweissfic hadn't won. :)

I look forward to your reports on CA. And I must thank you once again for coming to the rescue on Saturday morning and agreeing to the quick switch in scheduling. I must remember to add 'stalking Steve Vander Ark' to my list of interests. :)

Wish I could have heard your presentation. Heck, wish I could have heard *any* of the presentations. The joys of being behind the scenes!

You're very welcome, Sheryll -- it all turned out fine in the end, and I think the added element of nervousness probably made my presentation a bit better than it might otherwise have been. :)

I know that the individual presentations weren't taped, but was Steve's speech from the banquet recorded, by any chance? If not, you might want to keep that in mind if you have him another time -- I bet those tapes would sell like hotcakes. :)

Also, I see that [livejournal.com profile] webbapettigrew has posted her CA essay on the web -- would I be free to post mine now, as well? Or would that cause problems for you and Phyllis in some way? In any case, I won't do anything until I hear from you...

I wish we had thought to record Steve's speech. Aside from the fact that they would sell like hotcakes, we could have sent a copy to everyone who had attended.

I'd say go ahead and post yours as well. I know there are a lot of people wanting to read it. I don't think it will cause any problems. :)

I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your presentation. In fact it was one of the few that lived up to not only being an academic presentation but also entertaining and interesting,

And Steve was highly entertaining.

Wow! Thank you! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it. It's hard to tell, when you're the speaker, if you're entertaining the audience or whether they're just too polite to fall asleep or walk out. :)

Man, we should all have put our LJ names on our name tags. I've realized there were a whole whack of people there whose names I knew from LJ but didn't recognize... you being one of them.

It was very nice to listen to your presentation and if they are any indication of how you write, I'm not surprised that you won those awards.

Steve is such a great speaker. He was fantastic at Nimbus and was just as good at CA.

Congratulations on all those awards! (I don't know Alias fandom at all, but oh well).

Re Convention Alley, it was a hoot to meet you finally after having read your Snape stories and wibbled occasionally at you in LJ!

Speaking of Snape stories, that Holmesian Snape I mentioned is here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/sinick/6490.html)

Oooh, Holmesian Snape! *bounces* I will definitely look at it as soon as time permits.

It was neat to meet you, too! I'm so glad you wore your LJ icon as a pin and wrote your LJ name on your namecard, because I know I met tons of people last weekend that I ought to have recognized but didn't know were at CA until it was too late...

That Pettigrew costume was amazing BTW. Especially the hand.

*nodnods* I know that practically none of my fandom friends knows me by sight - that's the inevitable side-effect of net.fandom. I was certain if I didn't go by my LJ handle nobody would've known me at all, and damned if I was going to let that happen.

And I figured it'd be well worth making myself an LJ icon badge, just to make sure I'd pinged everyone with visual as well as verbal memories. :)
