Dear House writers:

I HATE YOU.

*sobs brokenly into 1,786th tissue*

Seriously, that hit way too close to home for me -- and this is why )

Conclusion: Quality-wise, in terms of the writing, the acting, the cinematography, it was excellent. And I never, ever want to see it again.

Major spoilers lurk beneath the cuts, so proceed at your own risk...

Lost: Two for the Road )

House: Euphoria I & II )

Doctor Who: The Girl in the Fireplace )

And now to bustle about tidying the house and making school lunches and all those other things I can only get done when the kids are in bed. Sigh.
It's not finding a suitable disease that's the problem when researching for House fanfic -- there are tons of them out there. It's the differential diagnosis stuff that'll drive you nuts, because then you have to research a whole bunch of other diseases as well. And if, like me, you really don't like research to begin with and find yourself easily frustrated not knowing where to start (or stop, for that matter)... well, all there is to say is "urgh".

However, I think I managed to get through the worst of it today. I have several pages of scribbled notes (my handwriting is really unspeakable these days, it's pathetic how seldom I pick up a pen any more) and a whole bunch of ideas floating around in my brain.

And if this sounds suspiciously like I'm working on a sequel to "Galatea", then, um... you might be right about that.
Things I forgot to mention about "House vs. God" last night, because I was too busy capering about the room over the Cameron=Wilson thing:

More spoilers )

Did you know that the writer of this episode is on LJ? She doesn't post often, but you can find her at [livejournal.com profile] tightropegirl. She writes for Lost and other shows on occasion, too.

I really, really liked this episode. It reminded me of all the things I enjoy most about House when the writing is really on. Also, it was a good episode for Chase, who has been ignored too much lately, and I always enjoy House and Wilson playing conversational tennis. Unfortunately it was yet another example of this season's persistent spoiler ) motif, and it's about the 10,000th time we've all seen a story about a passionate young charismatic preacher who spoiler ), but those are minor quibbles in what was, overall, a really great script.

However, what I really have to say right now is this:

I CANNOT CONTAIN MYSELF ANY LONGER.

THE WORLD IS READY. IT IS TIME.

Seriously, I have had this idea bubbling in my mind for weeks, but it is so heretical and would drive so many people in House fandom nuts for so many different reasons that I --

Actually I don't know why I haven't written about it before, come to think of it. But anyway. My heartfelt thanks to Doris Egan, a brilliant writer who has confirmed for me in the clearest possible terms what I have been thinking for weeks now:

Heretical Spoilery Theory )

THANK YOU.

GOOD NIGHT.

Crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] house_cameron.
Some of you were wondering what I was on about re posting fic on a weekend, and looking for the last chapter of "Galatea" in vain, since I had it f-locked while I gathered last-minute beta comments. However, I did some more editing last night, and Part Four is now public. Hope you enjoy it!
Yes, this is the end / the beginning, and the end... Thanks once again to [livejournal.com profile] cesario, [livejournal.com profile] lizbee, and especially [livejournal.com profile] logastellus, who took time out of an insanely busy schedule to beta this fic (and do a smashing job of it too).

Previous chapter links: Part One | Part Two | Part Three

"Let me guess," said Cuddy, not even bothering to look up as House walked in... )

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who's taken the time to read and comment on this story. I really appreciate your feedback and continuing interest!
It's House time again! Thanks to everybody who's been reading and commenting on the fic as it's posted, I really appreciate it. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] logastellus, [livejournal.com profile] lizbee and [livejournal.com profile] cesario for early feedback on this chapter.

First, links to the previous chapters: Part One | Part Two

And now:

"Do you mind telling me exactly what we're doing here?" asked Wilson... )
Thanks to some helpful comments from [livejournal.com profile] logastellus and others, I ended up reworking a couple of scenes in the last post. You may or may not want to check that out, but in any case here's a link to Part One for those who missed it.

And now, on to Part Two:

"You can't be serious," said Foreman... )

Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] logastellus, and also to [livejournal.com profile] lizbee, for early comments. Feedback is my friend.

rj_anderson: (House Cameron What)
Why, why, WHY is it that just when I come up with what I think is a great idea for a diagnosis, and spend half the day researching it and the other half writing it into my Housefic, do I come across a story (and in this case a canonical story) that's going to make all my hard-won and carefully developed ideas seem derivative and old hat?

*curses the writers of "Clueless" bitterly*

It's not that the diagnosis in that episode is the same as the one in my fic, it's just that in one conversation Foreman and House mentioned practically all the tests and all the treatments I'd come up with over the past 24 hours. Gnarr!

Also, why was this episode so dark and moody-looking compared to the entire rest of the season? Did they hire the lighting staff from The X-Files or what?

*grumps*
I've decided to post this in installments, in the hope that feedback will help keep me going. It's hard to find time to write these days, but I really want to get this story written. So, here's the first part:

The afternoon sunlight streamed through the glass doors of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital... )

Comments and criticisms welcomed, as always.
Fandom meme gacked from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63:

Name a character or pairing! Watch me ramble on about it!

Simple, no?
In the last 24 hours I have written three of the BESTEST HOUSE/CAMERON CONVERSATIONS EVAR.

Well, maybe not that good, but I like them. I'm just extra-happy because up until yesterday my brain was stubbornly refusing to provide me with any actual House dialogue, but now House has taken up residence in my frontal temporal parietal ear -- uh, whatever lobe applies -- and he's on a roll. So is Cameron, which is also a relief because until yesterday all she wanted to do was drink coffee and emote, but now she's talking back.

So yay for potential Housefic! Now I just have to figure out, y'know, the actual story.

That shouldn't be too hard, right?

(Ha.)
So, during the Great Hiatus of 2006 (is it February 14th yet?), I'm catching up on S1 episodes of HOUSE. A few observations:

"Heavy", I've decided, is like a Very Special Episode of HOUSE set in Bizarro World. And this is why... )

As for "Role Model", which I've just finished watching... Now this is more like it. )

Though after seeing this episode, what I really want to know is, why aren't there more Cameron icons identifying her as "a stuffed animal made by Grandma"? Hee!

A while back I said I'd post links to all the drabbles and other quick-fics I'd written for the "Stump the Author" meme, so here I am making good on that promise.

Doctor Who )

Doctor Who/X-Files )

Remington Steele )

House )

I also wrote Snape/Luna for [livejournal.com profile] lizbee, but since that ended up being revised and expanded into the middle part of "Opportunities", there's no need to repost it here. I still owe her a Snape/Lily drabble, however, which I plan to write as soon as I can think of a suitable idea.
Some of my favorite grouchy people were born in early January, it seems. First we have Mary Russell on January 2nd, on no lesser word than that of her author editor Laurie R. King; then Sherlock Holmes on January 6th, a date not explicitly given in canon but nonetheless widely accepted among Holmesians as correct due to Holmes's penchant for quoting Twelfth Night.

We know also that Dr. Gregory House was born in early-to-mid January, and seeing that he shares a house number with Holmes, it doesn't seem much of a stretch to propose January 6th as his birthday as well. And then, of course, J.K. Rowling has informed us that Severus Snape was born on January 9th.

Is it an astrological thing to have brilliant, misanthropic, sarcastic, obsessively driven characters born in January, or is there some other logic behind it?
H. and I are finally getting around to watching last season's episodes, and it's interesting (and occasionally quite amusing) looking at these early eps in the light of later ones.

Seeing "Hunting" before "Occam's Razor", for instance -- I couldn't help thinking as I watched the latter that the way Cameron spoiler ). I also noted in that scene, though I've noticed it before, that Jesse Spencer is a really fine face actor -- you could see every one of his thoughts and feelings as Cameron was delivering her "sex is ugly" speech, even though he didn't have a single line.

But tonight we watched "Maternity", and all I can say is spoiler ) ENDED. MY. LIFE. That has to be one of the saddest moments on the show ever. I should know better than to watch stuff about babies right now. Or possibly ever.

And speaking of babies, GIP. Paul turned four months yesterday.

Paul is learning to use his hands now, and he's started to play with toys. I think [livejournal.com profile] lizbee in particular will be interested in the result:

I think my fellow House fans will have no difficulty guessing the wombat's name. I mean, what else could I possibly call it?

HOUSE Casting Spoiler )

Haven't seen the latest episode yet, but I look forward to watching it tonight.

Also, a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] risti!
Some random linkage for a Friday afternoon:

Community plug: [livejournal.com profile] housefic_meta. Right now they're looking for recommendations of "Classic" House fics, by which they really seem to mean "really well-written House fics of any sort, even if nobody's heard of them". So in the end, some useful recs could come out of this. I personally plan to submit a couple (recs, I mean). It's hard to find good Housefic.

Also, probably everybody in creation has seen the best Christmas lights display ever, but here it is in case you haven't. Snopes has the backstory -- it's the real deal, cooked up by an electrical engineer with delusions of grandeur and waaaay too much time on his hands. Now if only I could get my kids to stop playing it over and over and over...

Finally, [livejournal.com profile] ursulav has just posted an amusing story about editing one of her manuscripts which I think will be of special interest to [livejournal.com profile] lizbee, among others.

* * *

I should probably have mentioned a couple of posts back, since there seems to be some honest confusion on the subject, that I did enjoy GoF. In fact, I probably enjoyed it as much as PoA or more so -- definitely more than I did the first two movies, anyway. Not that any of them were actually painful to watch, IMO. Of course the books are better, but aren't they always?

The best thing about the film, though, I haven't yet seen mentioned anywhere -- costuming spoiler ). Comedy GOLD, man. I nearly spit my water all over the row in front of me.

Also, I love Neville like whoa, shiny shoes and all.
