In response to the overwhelming support for this scene on the poll I ran a couple of weeks ago, it's...
The Birthday Party
In which Malcolm's coming of age goes pear-shaped in several different ways, thanks to the involvement of Albion, Margot, Geoff Weasley, and a girl named Susannah.
If Margot were annoyed, she gave no sign of it. "You'll have to excuse my brother," she said. "Dropping broad hints that I'm a Dark sorceress with ambitions of world domination is one of his few amusements these days."
ETA: Please note that this is not a complete story in itself, but rather a scene from a much longer WiP, and goes along with the four earlier scenes from the same WiP that I've posted in the past.

Date: 2004-01-29 10:45 pm (UTC)It is? That's news to me, and I'm an Aussie. Are you confusing it with "get stuffed", which is about the equivalent of the English "bugger off". Or maybe the etymology has the same root, but I've never heard of the "I'm stuffed" version. Maybe I don't hang around with crude enough people.

Date: 2004-02-01 05:48 pm (UTC)I was a little surprised at Margot having always been supportive of Malcolm. He came across as being somewhat intimidated and beaten down by her in the "characters answer questions from readers" meme you did. I'd wondered if the reason he was with Margot in Albion's birthday fic was because Snape made her swear to look after him, and hence "bring Malcolm to a place of safety before everything hits the fan" was Step #1 in her Dark Plan.
Margot's reaction when Albion and Susannah get together should be amusing. I can see her tearing into Albion for stealing his brother's girlfriend, with Malcolm trying, not very forcefully, to explain that he and Susannah were really just friends (I say not very forcefully, because supportive or not, he still appears quite wary of crossing Margot).
It will also be interesting to see how you develop the whole Malcolm looking like Harry Potter thing. It's due to the fact that all purebloods are related, no doubt, but have you worked out exactly how Maud and Snape fit into James' family tree? How did Snape react when the resemblance first became noticeable? Is Harry aware of it? Is Rita Skeeter? I could see her doing a "Harry's Bastard Love Child" story, to pay Snape back for using irony on her. What would really be funny is if it happened when Margot was old enough to take exception, and revenge ...

Date: 2004-02-01 06:23 pm (UTC)Oh, gosh, no. He just has more sense than to get involved in the ongoing war between her and Albion -- like many youngest children he's the diplomat, peacemaker, gets-along-with-everybody type. He's not afraid of Margot, not for his own sake anyway, though he's justifiably afraid of what she may do to herself and other people.

No, not at all. Malcolm may be more reserved than his siblings, and less inclined to seek the spotlight, but he makes his own decisions.
As for Albion and Susannah, even if Margot found out, she wouldn't care, except perhaps to have a brief, contemptuous laugh at Albion's weakness. It won't even hurt Malcolm that much -- it's water under the bridge by then.
As for the resemblance between Malcolm and Harry, I haven't really thought that through much yet. It's more that with Snape's black hair and Maud's green eyes, I could see the potential for a Harry-like offspring, and it was just too perfect a piece of karmic justice for me to resist. :)
I did, however, learn today that Harry in the D&Lverse has a beard. I was quite surprised by that, but upon reflection it makes sense: he is, after all, practically a hermit...
