Wayfarer Cover

And here's the jacket copy to go with it:
The faeries of the Oak are dying, and it’s up to a lone faery named Linden to find a way to restore their magic. Linden travels bravely into dangerous new territory, where she enlists the help of an unlikely friend—a human named Timothy. Soon they discover something much worse than the Oakenfolk’s loss of magic: a potent evil that threatens the fate of all faeries. In a fevered, desperate chase across the country, Timothy and Linden risk their lives to seek an ancient power before it’s too late to save everyone they love.

R. J. Anderson has artfully crafted a world of stunning magic, thrilling adventure, and delicate beauty, where a girl far from home must defeat the pervasive evil befalling her beloved faery realm.

The official publication date for Wayfarer is April 27, 2010.

I'm not sure I ever pictured Linden wearing Maybelline, but I do love her expression. Also, the artful not-quite-faery-not-quite-mundane illusion effect with the wings, which I am describing very badly, so you'll just have to take my word for it. :)

Ooh, I am so saving up for when the reporters come 'round after your Carnegie win. :)

One other question - the copy is great, but am I missing something? Are they not pushing this as the sequel to Knife (or Spell Hunter, whatever)?

They have dropped the Faery Rebels series title and are moving it up from Harper Children's to HarperTeen. But inside, it does specify that Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter is "Also by R.J. Anderson". That's about it for any obvious connection, I think.

Shame they didn't keep the same look and feel as the first book. Would make it feel more like a "set". But if as you say, it isn't, I suppose I can live with it! ;)

Perhaps when they release the boxed set of 10, then they will redo all the covers...

Interesting (and it explains the pink sparkly font, too). Something of compliment, that, isn't it - moving up an age bracket?

*suddenly has visions of certain new faery characters hitting REALLY big with the Twilight-type crowd...*

I think (and this is pure conjecture on my part) that the original feeling was that "small faeries = middle grade", but there was a lot of positive response from teen readers to the first book in spite of it being aimed at a younger age bracket, so it seemed sensible to move this one up a bit.

And, of course, the "small" part is not so important in this book as it was in the last.

Oh goodness, I can't even look that far. Ten books!?

On the other hand, I really thought there were only two books in the series when I started, and now it looks like there might be three or four... so you never know.

Thank you! I appreciate that very much. It's hard for me to know, just reading the jacket copy, whether it's going to appeal to the reader who doesn't know the book the way I do!

Nope! REBEL (same book, different title and cover) will be out in the UK on 7 January 2010. So it's only the US/Canada folk who have to wait an extra four months to read it...
