I'm just waiting for somebody to say Watership Down. I doubt that they would, the protagonists aren't animals. Yes, I can see the connections, but comparing Knife with Watership Down wouldn't do for pigeonhole-y purposes.
Edit: and because I was staring, I forgot to also agree that the Flower Fairies books are very inspiring.
