Since I still fail at the promised book reviews, why don't you have a very fine one of [livejournal.com profile] carbonelle's in the meantime? I just read D.M. Cornish's Foundling a couple of weeks ago myself, and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Meanwhile, my husband and I are still watching an episode of Blake's 7 every night, and slowly working our way through S1. Tonight's was a good old-fashioned murder mystery, marred only by the inexplicable stupidity of Blake in haring halfway across the galaxy without bothering to double-check his cargo first. Another sad case of Idiot Plot, but since Blake is not ordinarily an idiot (at least not in my estimation) I'll trust that this won't happen again... too often.

As for the rest of the crew:

Dear Avon: You smile like a shark. Please stop doing it, it creeps me out.

Dear Cally: I am relieved to find that you are capable of getting through an entire episode without endangering yourself or the other crew members. Keep it up.

Dear Vila: HEE.

Dear Jenna: Even when you don't do much, you are kind of awesome. How do you do that?

Dear Gan: Uh... I got nothing. But I like you OK, anyway.

No Servalan this episode, which is a bummer. I haven't seen such fabulous fashion sense since Romana I... oh, wait.

Off to bed now...

I bumped into Paul Darrow a few years back. He was wearing an aubergine double-breasted suit, as well as the shark smile. Creepiest thing I've ever seen.

I remember at one time trying to think up ingenious ways in which the Federation of Star Trek might have gradually metamorphosed into that of Blake's Seven!

Teleporting was one problem - there had to have been some development or some sort of weapon invented at some distant date that meant teleporting became so extremely dangerous that it would go out of use for hundreds of years (except for those funny bracelets, of course!) And naturally, most of the alien races of Trek would have had to be liquidated at some point and then forgotten! Various signs of prosperity would have had to turn out to be unsustainable too, in the long run.

The back-history of Blake's 7 was less of a problem, I recall: most discrepancies could somehow be explained away as misinformation!

Anyway, it was an interesting excercise!

I think Avon still keeps on smiling like a shark. Especially when things are going wrong.

Dear Jenna: Even when you don't do much, you are kind of awesome. How do you do that?
Gee, and you haven't even seen "Bounty" yet! (IMHO, I think that's Jenna's best episode).

Oh, I didn't realize that they had the same costume designer! Well-spotted.

Thank you; I nearly spit cereal on the screen at that one. Avon is in fine form in that one, isn't he?

*sigh*
I give up; I'll have to buy a region-free player when my present one dies. B7 is *never* coming out in Region 1, is it?

I have the final six episodes in cruddy taped-from-PBS 20 years ago format, and I sooo want to introduce my kids to the whole series. Nothing else on TV ever came close to B7--Firefly reminds me of it a bit, but in a less cynical form

Avon's smile just keeps getting more sharkish, as his leather-n-studs look gets more outrageous.
