More Fun with JKR and Dunnett
I have just recalled one of the other shared elements I stupidly failed to write down when I was reading The Game of Kings: Dunnett, like JKR, makes reference to the twelve uses of dragon's blood.
Though in Dunnett's book, it's made clear that the term "dragon's blood" is a fanciful description for a considerably more mundane substance, and I suspect that "oven cleaner" was not one of the twelve uses she had in mind...
I am very much afraid that
lizbee is right: JKR totally dodged the Snape/Lily question, and in a manner that makes me think I shall have to take a deep breath and resign myself. The sad thing is, if I'd been left in blissful ignorance of the idea, or come up with it all on my own, I would probably have thought it brilliant. But having had Snape/Lily trumpeted at me for the last two years, plus being subjected to some truly bad fic incorporating the concept (though I won't say there haven't been some smashingly good ones as well), the thought of having the idea show up in canon makes me just feel, well, mutinous.
On the other hand, this is JKR. If anybody can make me believe in it, she can.
Regarding tonight's release, I have a dilemma. If I go down as soon as the store opens to get my reserved copy of OotP, I'll have to stay up until midnight. And then once I get the book in my hands, I'm going to want to just take one little peek. And then I'll get no sleep at all and be fried and useless the next day. However, if I don't go down at midnight, I probably won't be able to sleep anyway. But I might surprise myself on that score, who knows, and then I could go down and pick the book up the next morning. Except I'm worried there'll be a huge lineup and it'll take me forever to get it, plus I'll want to spend the whole day reading it and my family will mope at me.
What to do, what to do...?

I have the exact same dilemma. I think the Hubby is actually going to go get the book at midnight. While he's not the fangeek that I am, he is excited about reading it and wants it on hand as soon as possible. I'm going to try to go to sleep because if I even catch a glimpse of it, I'll be up all night. But I'll probably wake up at 3 a.m. to go to the bathroom or something and, knowing the book is actually in the house, I'll start reading and then be a complete mess on Saturday.
Obsession is uncomfortable, isn't it?

And I have new spoiler-ish evidence for Snape/Lily. Or maybe it was just evidence that Snape was once suspended from the rafters in the Great Hall wearing nothing but his green and silver boxer shorts and a Dunkin' Donuts apron. It was fairly oblique...

Know what I need? Occlumency tuition. Stat.

I just wish there was more good Snape/Lily fic. I gave up looking for readable stuff a long time ago.

If there were a fic that could make me believe in Snape/Lily, that would be it.

I'll be lucky to be coherent. ¡Ai!
