So last night I decided to finally use up some ingredients I had sitting around, and make Christmas Mice for the refreshments after our Sunday School pageant tomorrow. Needless to say, as with anything fancy I try to do, it quickly turned into a comedy of errors.

First the Oreos wouldn't separate, so I stuck them in the microwave; then I over-warmed them just a touch and the icing got too soft, so I stuck them in the freezer; and then they wouldn't come apart cleanly, so I ended up having to scrape half the icing off one side and spread it on the other. Then after I melted the dipping chocolate it seemed too thick, so I warmed it a bit more and it got stiff and smelled burnt, thus forcing me to melt another batch. The bowl I chose turned out not to be deep enough to dip the cherries completely, so I had to scoop the chocolate over each cherry with a spoon... and then my green decorating gel went liquid on me and left an unappetizing-looking puddle beside the first mouse I tried to decorate...

But anyway, an hour later, I had twenty-three (since I ate the mouse-in-a-puddle) cute little chocolate mouse-creatures sitting on a cookie sheet, ready to delight the hearts of all the little kids at the pageant.

Which means, of course, that tomorrow night I am sure to forget all about them and leave them sitting on top of the downstairs freezer.
