Wow!

I just went and looked at my User Info and there are 200 people on my "Also Friend of" list! I feel all warm and fuzzy now.

However, it occurs to me that I don't know anything about many of you, which is kind of embarrassing. So... if you'd like to leave a comment to this message telling me a little bit about yourself and what brought you here, that would be nifty.

Thanks, in any case, for your interest in my LJ!

Found you via HP fandom and BowJamesBow: stayed for the always-interesting journal.

As for myself, I'm a happily married mother of two, live and work in a north-central Ontario mining town (professing history at the local U) and have an eclectic fannish life on LJ.

I like your Ten icon!

I heartily approve of north-central Ontario mining towns, as you'll notice if you look at my Schools... :)

I found your site through Patrick Goodman's site. He and I have been friends for a long time and I consider him a good judge of character, so I thought giving you a read was a good idea.

Turns out I was right. :)

I'm a student, wife, and mother of three. I'm also headed toward a PhD in Cultural Anthropology, so that's going to necessitate a move before too long.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I remember you quite well. :) I read your blog on a semi-regular basis -- more regularly than I do Patrick's, in fact, but then you update more often, too.

[identity profile] sreya.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't remember exactly how I found your livejournal now, but I found you through your Darkness & Light trilogy on SugarQuill, which remains some of my most favorite fanfiction ever.

A little about myself - I'm a third year law student living on my own near New York, about 3000 miles away from my family. I was raised an Air Force brat and still have the travel-bug that interrupts my life from time to time.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the kind words about D&L! I didn't realize you were a law student -- that's interesting. A friend of mine is going to Australia to study law in a couple of weeks... she'll be thousands of miles from her family, too.

IIRC, I Friended you after [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa linked your discussions of "The Problem of Susan", which were brilliant and smart and correct and stuff. I'm a fanfic writer, a Republican, a Jew-by-choice, and a Japanophile. I think that about covers it. ;-)

[identity profile] carbonelle.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto that. Someone else recc'd your Snapefic as "even if harry- potter-fan-fic-dom is wankerific you'll still love this one" And of course, I did.

I found your site through a trackback of a link to my blog from your "The Problem of Susan" discussion. I consider your post on the subject a classic, by the way. I've hung around a teeny bit to hear about your new baby. :) My fandoms run first to Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, but I also follow Harry Potter.

I'm a mother of two children, used to be a software engineer before kids, now I'm just starting back to work full time(after 10 years at home) at an elementary school where I run a computer lab devoted to improving children's reading skills via Waterford Early Reading (http://www.waterford.org/corporate_pages/Program_ERP.jsp) software. I dabble in icons and wallpapers--my graphics journal is [livejournal.com profile] dymers_dream.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cool! I'm glad to hear the occasional baby posts are interesting to at least some of my readers, and not merely annoying.

The new job sounds fascinating! I hope it goes well for you.

[identity profile] singingtopsy.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I found you through the Darkness & Light trilogy when it was posted on SugarQuill. I believe yours may have been the first fanfiction I ever read (I had been studiously avoiding it before the PoA movie came out) and it convinced me that the whole practice might be worthwhile. I have eagerly read all your HP fanfiction and your Eleventh Doctor stories (even though I've never watched an episode of the show) and I would snap up any original novel you publish like that *snaps* ^_^!

I'm a high school senior in Northern California, an aspiring writer and scholar, and an Evangelical Christian who also happens to be a Democrat.

[identity profile] starbuckx.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I found you through a link to your essay about Susan (Narnia), and I was pleasantly surprised to see you were the author of one of my favorite pieces of fanfiction, so I friended you. Best way not to loose sight of someone. *laughs*

Me, I'm a 21 year old law student (who if all goes well will cease to be student to become full-fledged lawyer very soon) from Panama City, Panama, a very hot and little country, which, according to some 'It's so much like a jungle it's amazing you can get Internet access' (*laughs* Not quite!)

I think I found you through the D&L trilogy...but it was probably two or three years ago, before I even had an LJ myself. (Classify me as a faithful lurker. ^_^) And, besides the fact that your posts are always and ever interesting, you're a Christian too.... ^_^

As for me, I'm a college freshman looking towards an English major, and I've been told I'm a Hermione without reproach, which pretty much explains anything else you'd ever need or want to know. ^_^

I liked what you had to say on child_lit, I think it was about Harry Potter, but it might have been something else. I looked at your journal & thought it would be interesting to read, so I added you. I'm a 3rd grade teacher, but I'm doing this after a long career in animal behavior research at the local zoo, so I'm pretty much an Old Person. I love children's literature & try to get my students involved in reading, with nowhere near enough time to work with. I'm also a traditional Scottish fiddler and I just started a master's degree program last fall.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm... I've never been on child_lit, but maybe somebody there posted a link to something I'd written? I do have at least one friend who hangs out on that list, so it's possible.

Animal behaviour research sounds fascinating. I love zoos. And fiddles. :)

You used to be on LordPeter eons ago, and I've been a fan of D&L ever since it was originally posted. (I was also on RUSS-L, but I don't think I ever posted. :) )

At one point or another, [livejournal.com profile] dichroic linked to your non-LJ blog, and I put a few pieces together and decided to friend you, because you always struck me as a really interesting person and someone I'd like to know better.

(I'm Miss de Vine on LP, if that rings any bells.)

I loved your Snape/Maud fic, and enjoyed reading your essays, so I added you to my watchlist!

I'm an artist and Snape fan from Texas, and I adore Christian mothers who write good fanfiction. XD

My memory grows fuzzy, but I /believe/ I found your blog through via [livejournal.com profile] dr_c about three years ago and I've been stalking reading the blog and your LJ ever since. You write about a lot of things that matter to me -- Harry Potter, Lewis, religion, family, literature, and almost everything else -- and you write about them so very beautifully, thoughtfully, and intelligently.

Also, I love your fic. I'm not a fanfiction writer myself, nor do I read much of it, but I adore yours.

Myself, I'm a young writer-wannabe, aspiring legal scholar, and corporate drone just out of university in the US. The sparks of imagination struck by reading blogs and LJs like yours are definitely bright spots in my day. Thanks!

Oh, we've known each other for ages! I'm the witch that has a cottage on the Moor who looks after lame horses and young tiggies!! D&L was one of the first (if not the very first) Snape fanfics that I read and you convinced me that there might be some good in the man (he did break my heart last summer). Come to think of it, you're largely responsible for me becoming an HP fan (and Alan Rickman's too)! If AR hadn't been mentioned so enthusiastically on RUSS-L the spring of 2001, I would never have read the books nor gone to the first movie.

Anyway my life is totally boring; I live alone with a bad tempered cat called Hermione, but I'm considering renaming her Bella.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hail and well met! Yes, I certainly remember you.

And Bella does sound rather appropriate, especially for a cat.

You know, I think this is the first time in months, if not years, that I haven't had at least one active icon with AR on it... since this one is actually based on John Wood.

I thnk I friended you because of your interesting essay on Susan, though I'd come across your LJ and read it occasionally before that. Your Dr Who fic has been recommended to me, though I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

As for me, I'm a lecturer in Biblical Studies, enjoy mediaeval literature, used to write fic for Good Omens and now write it mainly for Weiss Kreuz, and really love the cheesetastic sword-and-sandal epic films of the 50s and 60s.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep meaning to watch Ben Hur one of these days...

I'm glad you liked the essay on Susan, and I hope you enjoy the Whofic if and when you get around to it.

I've never heard of Weiss Kreuz -- will have to look into that if only to satisfy my curiosity as to what on earth it is!

Hello. I don't remember exactly how I came across your LJ, but I know that it was on account of its being Christian, and I rather suspect it was through [profile] lyssiae or [profile] adeodatus. I found you charming from the start, but what really committed me to stay was the baby - adorable photos, you yourself looking luminously beautiful and very happy, and the way you kept posting virtually till birth.

I am Italian, resident in London England, single, 43, a semi-professional research historian and professional translator. 2005 was one of the worst years of my life, but I emerged from it (thanks to literally life-saving support from my mother) better housed than before and out of debt. Now if the phone company from Hell would kindly connect me up so I can get broadband, life would be just hunky dory.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you may have friended me back after I friended you. And the reason I first friended you, without knowing you from the proverbial Adam, was that I happened to browse friendsfriends one day and came across a comment in someone's LJ to the effect that they were sorry you hadn't been blown up in the London bombings. I was so viscerally disgusted and enraged that anyone would say that about another human being, and found it so hard to imagine what could have prompted such an intensity of dislike, that I checked out your LJ, looked at your Interests and read a few of your essays, and then Friended you.

For the record, the offensive comment that prompted me to seek you out was quite quickly deleted -- I guess the poster thought better of it. And I genuinely can't remember the name of the person who posted it either -- only that it was someone I'd never heard of before, and not anyone I've yet heard you mention. Probably for the best.

I'm glad you've found good housing, and hopefully the broadband issue will be settled soon. Phone companies seem to be the same all over the world.

As for something about me...well. I'm just another adult!Hermione, currently working in market research until I can find a job that actually matches up with my academic interests. And I have a molasses cookie on my desk that is about to be devoured. ^_^

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, molasses cookies! And I'm glad you're still enjoying the icon. Derek Fowlds is love.

[identity profile] crjace.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I came across your journal while I was looking into the debate about Susan, and it just seemed we had a lot in common and that I would want to keep track of your journal (Dr. Who, Harry Potter, Narnia, fantasy--in fact, just knowing there was another Christian writer out there who liked HP and other fantasy stuff seemed too perfect). Plus, you have an avid interest in Snape, which always appeals to me.

As for me, I am a medical student in Florida, newly married, and trying to get in the habit of writing stories on a more regular basis.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on your newly wedded state! And thanks for telling me a bit more about yourself.

BTW, did you want the original version of that Snape icon? If you like the one you're currently using better, that's fine, but I thought I'd offer you mine if you were interested, since I'm not using it at present.

I've never gotten around to the formality of the f-list, but I drop by here quite a lot. (Somehow, that seems less stalker-y than friending a complete stranger... right?) Um, hi.

I found your LJ after I read two of your 11th Doctor stories in an old issue of Myth Makers, and went looking for more. Then I read D&L, even though at that time I had a thing against reading HP fic, because I couldn't resist seeing what somebody whose DW fic was that good might do with Snape. And I kept coming back because I find your non-fiction writing engaging, even though we're often coming from very different perspectives. The fact that you appreciate the finer things in life, such as Al Stewart, Bujold, and Buckaroo Banzai, is gravy.

Me? I'm a self-employed tech writer and geek-of-all-trades, with a penchant for starting far more stories than I finish. I'm a martial-arts swordfighter trying to come back from a knee injury. I am owned by two cats, one of whom is very glad I'm writing this post because it means the lap will stay put a little longer.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
If friending strangers is stalkerish, then man, I am so going to jail...

Seriously, I always just think it's cool when people I don't know friend me. I figure they must have seen something in my journal they liked, and if they think I can keep them amused on a regular basis, well, hooray. :)

Thanks for delurking, and for letting me know you enjoyed my fics. I know lots of Bujold fans, but Al Stewart and Buckaroo Banzai fans are harder to come by! Also, martial arts swordfighter = So. Very. Cool. I love swords and swordfighting. Even though I am a wimp and couldn't actually wield one of the things to save my life.

[identity profile] jtree.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The way I originally found your journal was very likely through some other people who, like me, were interested in Sherlock Holmes. Probably infiniteviking. And then seeing you also liked Snape and Tolkien, I thought I'd keep an eye on you. However, what really made me stick around was the fact that you mentioned that something called synaesthesia. Having never heard of the thing spoken of with an actual name or even taken seriously, it was a curious little eye-opener for me. And whatever slight piece of that kind of silly phenomenon I've had, it has surely never made me enjoy math, though.
Then again I've found your posts and subjects fairly interesting and kept you up. I don't truly keep a journal here myself; I'm more of a lurker and just occasionally comment to LJ here and there. I am from Finland. I study art as much as my other work allows me and I am interested in it in all its forms. So there.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're a synaesthete? Nifty! There's a researcher in a town very close to where I live who is one of the world's foremost authorities on synaesthesia: I keep meaning to read his books, because the whole idea just fascinates me endlessly.

I have an uncle from Finland, with a good Finnish last name -- Luoma.

Thanks for your interest in my journal!
