Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] lizbee:

What kind of work is my name -- R.J. Anderson -- associated with? What kind of assumptions do you make about a piece of writing, fiction or non, if you see my name on it?

Nota bene: This is emphatically NOT an attempt to fish for compliments. I'm not trying to get judgements on the quality of my work, but rather about its other characteristics. For example, if you were given the name of an actor, that might make you think of a certain genre of film he or she is often in or a type of character.

So what is RJA-brand writing?

It either involves female OCs or female canon characters in important roles, and either way they are women one does not wish to mess with.

Whoops. Forgot I've read your nonfiction as well. Your nonfiction contains rational, reasoned statements and arguments. I was going to say that it can't be mistaken for trolling even if the reader disagrees with you but since that's happened, I can't. >_< Rar.

hmm...

I knew you'd fall for this. :)

Meditative, polished, novel, familiar, tactile, intertextually resonant, rich, intriguingly peopled, rereadable...

(Carefully not reading the other comments yet)

Okay, so I can only comment on RJA's fanfic, not any other kind of writing:

SF/F fanfic, polished, semi-poetical, often thematic of love-to-die-for (whether that love be romantical or not, it is certainly one where much life-saving is involved), linear rather than complex plot, often redemptive.
And you're not afraid of writing strong OCs to get the job done. 8-)

Insightful character-based stories with strong characters and OCs who quickly win our hearts.

Fanfiction, anyway.

I’ve tried to be objective rather than gushing:
Thoughtful, often whimsical, with strong-willed but emotionally vulnerable characters, and excellent if rare musical references. Careful character development (whether canon or OC), lashings of plot, scads of dialogue, cut with a bit of well-executed action.

Oops.

Forgot to sign that one.

Quality, sincere characters with whom you fall in love.
