The publishing oracle has spoken...

...and it looks like the book formerly known as Touching Indigo will be known henceforth, in both its UK (Orchard Books, Summer 2011) and its US (Carolrhoda Lab, Fall 2011) editions, as...

(dun-DUN)

Ultraviolet.

I'm still getting used to it, but I think that my editors are right in saying that this is a more dynamic title which will have broader appeal, and also makes sense within the context of the book.

And just WAIT until you see the UK cover. They're still working on the design and copy and it'll be a while before I have anything final to post, but the sample I've seen is really beautiful and I'm very excited about it!

I like that a lot!
Touching Indigo is also lovely, but softer--this does have more commercial va-va-voom.

Wait!! Can't wait!!!!

Ultraviolet. Ultraviolet. Ultraviolet.

Yes, I can see it actually! I think "Touching Indigo" might be more meaningful if you've read it, but Ultraviolet is more likely to be picked up by people who aren't counting the days till it's out, so all good. Can't wait to see the cover!

I reaaally liked Touching Indigo as a title (it has such a nice sound to it!), but if Ultraviolet will grant you better sales and suits the book as well, there's nothing wrong with it. I'm so excited for your new book! ME WANTS COVER.

Why do they keep doing this to me? I'm always going to refer to your first three published books as Knife, Wayfarer, and Touching Indigo, no matter what those silly publishers say. I like your original titles. :P

[identity profile] rat-icefen.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still the same book. But the title does stand out more plus I think think ultraviolet isn't commen in book titles. It's unique and eyecatching. Indigo is surprisingly common but those books are often very good. This is why I bleieve this book will be a success lol. can't wait ;)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm! There's a distinct SF vibe there. I still love Touching Indigo, but broad appeal is good! :) *looks forward to seeing the cover art*

It's a great U2 song, too! :)

Oooh! The title makes me think of the many vampire series by that name (er, two, the BBC series and the movies), but it's certainly punchy. Yay!

I would've read it either way. :) And I do like the new title.

Well, I don't care what they call it as long as they publish it. I'll probably always think of it as Touching Indigo--but I'm also putting it on the list now to look forward to next year.

I found Wayfarer in my local bookstore the other day. I wanted to get it so bad, but money hates me right now so I have to wait. As soon as I can find another job and pay a few bills, then I might get a chance to persue my passion of eventually owning all of my favorite books and also the ones that intrigue me.

Also, I just wanted to say that I guess it is kind of neat about your title. Personally, I liked "Touch Indigo" as a title better, but I haven't read the book yet, so maybe "Ultraviolet" is the title that the book should really be. Guess I'll never really know until I read it though, huh. Can't wait.

Nichole

Mm... could go either way, based on the book as far as I read it. 'Touching Indigo' most excellently suggests moody teen drama, but if we're going for harder sci-fi 'Ultraviolet' def. has more zip.

That said, I'm waiting on the cover art -- that's what's going to make-or-break it, I think. Specifically, it will very much need to not have Mila Jovovich and/or nonsensical shiny things on it (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1945473536/tt0370032). :) (Although frankly, if you cut it down to 'doesn't have anyone with that anatomy on it' I would not be upset.)

Well, that's a dramatic title! I think it will grab people - and, of course, a lot of us are already waiting for this book.

(btw, I've got my review of "Wayfarer" up on amazon now.)

Oh. I was actually quite fond of "Touching Indigo". Alas. Now..."Ultraviolet." Sounds more scifi for some reason.

Cool!

Yes, I get why they like that title better. I also get why it takes a bit to get used to.

(is very impatient to read it)

I'm really looking forward to this one! Congrats on the cover and title design both.

Yay, I prefer this new title :-)

I loved the Touching Indigo tittle, but Ultraviolet sounds great! And I think it will make more people picking it up randomly and having a look.
I'm eager to see the covers :)

Just another random thought - "Touching Indigo" makes the synaesthesia theme clear, but "Ultraviolet" is very interesting to me for this reason:
Human beings can see indigo. They cannot see ultraviolet.

Glad you liked the review, btw! Am probably going to crosspost to my blogs.
