For the record...

And in response to a couple of appalled comments on my previous post, I never suggested Rowan Atkinson should play Snape. I just said that in this particular pic, Rowan Atkinson's hair looked like I think Snape's would if he took proper care of it. Not the same thing. :)

On the other hand, look at the sketch of Snape drawn by J.K. Rowling herself, and tell me that her version doesn't look a lot more like Atkinson than he does like Alan Rickman...?!

Actually, Rowan Atkinson's jolly dishy from certain angles. See series two of Blackadder. But I'm sure there's a part in the later books with his name on it (shame Sirius has been cast already)

I don't think Atkinson would fit the bill for Sirius really -- it sounds as though Sirius was much more conventionally attractive. But as Erica already knows, I agree with you on the "jolly dishy from certain angles" part -- seeing him with a beard and decent hair in Blackadder II was what first made me go "you know, he's not bad..." and when he showed up as the Ninth Doctor, I lost all my remaining reservations and wibbled.

I was surprised at his appearance in Blackadder II as well, for the same reasons -- the facial hair balanced off his mouth. And when I got my Dr Who tape from Amazon.uk, he was indeed the most wonderful, deep sort of Doctor.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could attribute that to half of Britain growing up on the show and wanting to be part of it (the other half either actually having worked on the show or watching it and not having sufficient imagination).
