REVIEW: "Empire of Ivory" by Naomi Novik

A few words only, being pressed for time, and as far as the review of this specific book goes, only two:

So. Cool.

I really am a sucker for these books. I didn't think I could love anyone more than Temeraire, but I think I love Iskierka even better. Also, I hope we see more of Tharkay in future.

*dashes off again*

Hooray! I love them too; my jaw hit the floor over certain developments in the war (that didn't happen the way they did in our space-time continuum)!

What's going to happen next?!

I don't like Iskierka yet -- she's too much the Sue. But I think EoI was the strongest novel in the series since His Majesty's Dragon. The ending just slayed me.

If you wander over to Yuletide, there are at least a couple of good fics in this universe, including a long one about the Harcourt/Riley marriage.

Not an Iskierka fan, fair enough -- but by what definition is she a Sue? I am puzzled.

I've only read the first two Temeraire books but I LOVE them. Can't wait to read more! Iskierka and Tharkay? I am tantalized!

I enjoyed EoI enough... but not until the last 75 pages or so. I felt like the whole African thing dragged on and on... it didn't have the same sense of urgency to it that the fling in China had. Still looking forward to the next in series though :D.
