I haven't read this book, but I really enjoyed the post. Although I'm a 30-y-o whippersnapper (aka crone by Tumblr standards :P), I was introduced to fantasy by my sff-loving parents, so the fantasy I grew up with was mostly 70s and 80s tropey genre fantasy: McCaffrey, Lackey, McKinley, Eddings, Brooks, etc. And of course the older classics, Tolkien and Lewis and such.

I mean, the best thing I had was She-Ra. So the culture of ONE MISSTEP AND ALL IS RUINED is kind of ludicrous to me. I get drawing lines, having standards beyond which you jump onboard the nopetrain. But I don't get drawing lines about everything.
