I really appreciate you weighing in on this from the perspective of someone who works with kids who have disabilities and knows the difficulty of finding good books for them. I hope to be posting a list soon of books that I have read that contain strong, nuanced, non-cliched portrayals of characters with disabilities, and I hope some day to be able to add your own WiP to that list!
