I can share my UK cover now!!!

I am so excited. I love this cover SO MUCH. (Brian Froud! Drew my character just for this book! Eeeeee!) So without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to Linden, the heroine of Rebel (a.k.a. Wayfarer in the US):

REBEL Cover Front

And this gives you a look at the whole cover, with spine and back copy:

REBEL Cover Flat

Her messy hair and her pigeon toes and the 80's-looking bomber jacket fill me with squee.

That's a wonderful cover!

You know, the illustration would also make a great poster ad...

I love it!

Eeeeeee!

If I recall correctly, you said that the cover of Knife was something that Brian Froud already had available, that you were lucky to get. So it is nifty-keen that he agreed to especially do the cover of the next book - though it makes sense from a publishing perspective to get the same artist to do all the covers in the same series.

Eeeeeee!

Linden is an interesting contrast to Knife; Knife is silver, Linden is gold.

May I ask why the UK title is "Rebel" and the US title is "Wayfarer"? I actually prefer Wayfarer, myself.

Oh, and I notice that the cover says "The thrilling sequel to the bestselling Knife" - is Knife really a bestseller? Cool!

What a great cover!! When is the US release? Canadian?

Yay, Rebecca! That's wonderful!

[identity profile] branquignole.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
This is just beyond amazing! I can't wait till I can hold that in my hands!

The art is gorgeous and I'm sure the inside of the book is as well. When will it be out?

WAYFARER was my original title, the UK wanted something punchier that went better with KNIFE. So for my first book the UK kept my original title and the US changed it, whereas for my second book the US is keeping my title and the UK is changing it. Such is publishing.

And apparently KNIFE is indeed a bestseller in the UK! I have no idea how these things are decided/measured, but the book's already in its fifth printing since January, so that seems like a very good sign.

And I forgot to mention that the cover for REBEL will have the same iridescent finish as the one for KNIFE. Shiny! Shiny faeries! Mwa ha ha ha ha ha!

(One day I will be a Dignified Professional Author, but apparently this is not that day.)

I believe the plan is to release both books a year after the first, so that would make the UK release January 2010 and the US/Canadian release May 2010...

*beams* Thank you!

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
January 2010 in the UK, I do believe!

[identity profile] branquignole.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that corresponds to the information they give me on amazon.de. Thanks. :) That's great!

Man, publishing time is slow!

It was much easier when I was still catching up on what authors I liked had published 20 years previous...knowing from the PM announcement what's coming makes for impatience...

Oh, that is absolutely gorgeous!

"Thrilling sequel to the bestselling KNIFE" = I am squeeing and jumping up and down for you! Does it get better than seeing that on your book?! :D :D

I'm so happy for you!

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't believe it, really. My subconscious thinks it's just a conspiracy of publishers. :D

And thank you! *jumps up and down with you*

Awesomely AWESOME!!!

That looks great - and I can't wait for "Rebel" to come out!

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I am full of love for my UK publisher, truly.

[identity profile] rj-anderson.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Coincidentally, neither can I! :D

From an authorial standpoint, it's really weird how by the time your first book comes out, you are so over that story and well into the next one... or in some cases, the one after that.

[identity profile] tinpra.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fantastic! She looks like a rebel (with a cause). No wonder you were squee about it.

[identity profile] serenasnape.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't wait!

[identity profile] lady-schrapnell.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
That's full of squee! So exciting!

[identity profile] snickelish.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is gorgeous. A Brian Froud cover just for you - how much more exciting does it get?

Also, did you see the Strange Horizons review of Knife (http://www.strangehorizons.com/reviews/2009/05/knife_by_r_j_an.shtml)? They say very nice things about it - which is especially squeeful for me, since I've been reading Strange Horizons since before I first found your blog.

LOVE IT! It's gorgeous! I am so happy I am getting the UK versions of your books - Brian Froud is one of my favourite artists in the world!

*wild applause*

I love the way it has that real otherworldly look that Froud is so brilliant at but in the same time is so in keeping with the cover for Knife.
