House Blathering Redux

Things I forgot to mention about "House vs. God" last night, because I was too busy capering about the room over the Cameron=Wilson thing:

Cameron PWNED Foreman and it was both satisfying, eminently logical, and richly deserved.

Cuddy is getting better-dressed and more attractive every episode. Considering some of the truly awful outfits she was wearing in S1, this is a great relief.

Wilson's McGill sweatshirt? Is Canadian love. What's the story behind that one? Also, I don't normally find RSL particularly attractive (or unattractive either -- he's just sort of there) but he was rocking the casual wear last night.

I think I said this before, but this was a really good episode for Chase. I enjoyed him freaking out in the apartment over the possibility of being caught -- that's something we haven't seen before and it was a nice twist.

Loved House's jazzed-up rendition of "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Irony ho!

William Katt! Yay! I adored The Greatest American Hero when I was a kid, so it was fun to see him again after all these years. And while I'm not particularly keen on charismatic doctrine and don't believe in "faith healers" as such, I appreciated the way this episode handled the spiritual issues. Especially Wilson's last line about how people don't always live up to what they believe.

No, no, I'm pointing out that Wilson IS Cameron and vice versa, not that Wilson/Cameron would be a good pairing. They're far too much alike to be a good match for each other -- but being so alike means that Cameron, like Wilson, is a good foil for House.

Call me crazy, but I didn't actually mind the episode where Cameron slept with Chase. It was the wrong thing to do, and it didn't make her problems any better or make her feel any happier, and the episode made abundantly clear that Kalvin's gospel of carefree hedonism was a pack of lies and wasn't even true for Kalvin himself. So I thought it was quite well handled and even, in its way, worthwhile. The main problem with the storyline was asking the viewer to buy that Cameron would make such a radical move so quickly... she hadn't really had time to sink into to the level of desperation necessary to justify her trying that kind of experiment.

Gotta second you on the C/C hook-up in "Hunting."

It may be one of the few (or possibly only) sexual relationships on House that didn't end with a death, disease, or some other disastrous outcome. Chase and Cameron both handled (for the most part, there's been a little judicious sniping in later eps) the morning after in decidedly adult fashion. It was actually refreshing.

It wasn't hideously disastrous or fatal, true. But it was unsuccessful and ultimately hollow for Cameron, and Chase seemed to get more out of it than she did -- which struck me as a lot more realistic than the "have sex, feel better" idea often promoted on other shows.

I agree, though, that House has been playing the "sex = death" card to a ridiculous degree this season. I'm pretty conservative about sexual mores, but I don't think the cause of self-restraint is really served by that degree of hysterical fearmongering.

Not that I think the House writers are actually trying to scare their audience into chastity, mind -- alas, I think it's more a case of rampant sensationalism, and I wish they'd grow up and find other toys to play with.
