I hope it will never be necessary, but there's certainly value in knowing one's limitations and pitching projects accordingly. Some of it is knowing the difference between strength and endurance: what you may be capable of doing (even magnificently) under pressure in the short term is not necessarily the same as what you can sustain over several years of a career. And a lot of it, I think, is figuring out how to nicely but professionally stand up for yourself and feel good about it, instead of agreeing to punishing deadlines and unfair expectations because you're scared of how people will react if you don't.

Not that I am in any way an expert on either of those points! I'm still figuring out the difference between what I can do, what I want to do, and what I actually should do, most of it by trial and error.
